What is the difference between a will and estate planning?

A Will is a binding document setting out how you want your assets distributed after your death.  Estate planning is the broad term to describe how a person plans for the future administration of the assets they have acquired when they die.  Estate planning includes a will, but with a comprehensive plan, you can give direction to your administrators for matters beyond the scope of will.  This can include powers of attorney, property transfer, trusts, and advance directives (living wills).
