Gender-based honorifics no longer required when female counsel introduce themselves to the Court.

For many years, female practitioners have had to make known their marital status when introducing themselves in court. Unlike their male colleagues that use their surname. The ADLS Newly Suited Committee, Chief Justice Dame Helen Winkelmann, and a judicial committee all agree that this practice is outdated and unnecessary, and therefore needs to be changed. Until there is clear practice guidance on the matter, it will be up to those in the legal profession to adopt and implement this in practice.
